Our Stories - Cameron Ball

Cameron has performed a number of theatre, television and film roles, including most recently as 'Macavity' in the West End revival of CATS at the London Palladium. With DCD's help, Cameron is retraining to become a marketing professional.

"The DCD has been instrumental in assisting me with the transition from moving away from a career on the stage. From the outset, the information provided by the DCD was clear and helpful, and the staff are always professional and friendly.

I elected to study an industry-recognised online marketing qualification, and with the guidance of the staff at the DCD was able to have this course funded. As a performer, regular income is rare so budgeting for a course like mine (approx. £1200) would not have been easy. The work the DCD do in assisting performers transfer/update their skills in other areas is vital because it means we can work towards becoming proactive and successful earners in other fields, thus contributing meaningfully to the workforce in the future.

I am excited about my career transition, and apart from the financial assistance, some of the other support services the DCD provides have been very useful. Of course, shifting focus in any career is not a simple task. In particular, the one-on-one transition coaching and the network of other re-trained dance professionals gives people like me the support we need to manage this major life change effectively. I know I speak for lots of my colleagues when I say the DCD is an important organisation, and really does assist ex-performers in a range of ways."
