Facts & figures

In the 34 years since its founding by the Late Peter Williams OBE, Dancers' Career Development has helped thousands of dancers to retrain in hundreds of different careers and professions both inside and outside the dance world. DCD provides all dancers in the UK with the knowledge, advice, contacts and skills they need to choose where their post-performing career path will lead and offers vital financial resources to help them to succeed in their retraining projects and future careers.

DCD's support programme is non-prescriptive, confidential and dancer driven and we understand that each retraining project requires a different level of support and guidance.

Dancers come equipped with an exceptional amount of transferable skills and knowledge, which helps them to succeed in whichever career path they choose after dancing. DCD retrained dancers can be found in adminstrative, teaching, and artistic positions in many UK and international dance companies, schools and dance organisations. They enrich the wider arts world as actors, photographers and stage designers to name but a few and they are sought after professionals in non-artistic professions as wide-reaching and varied as accountancy, architecture, lawyers, pilates instructors, pilots, plumbers, scuba diving instructors and zoologists.

A 2007 survey has shown that 89% of all DCD retrained dancers are currently still working in the profession they originally retrained for and an outstanding 95% consider that their retraining helped them to obtain their current career.
